Race Recap: Spider Mountain

The first race of the Team Trail Party Texas Gravity Enduro Series was at Spider Mountain Bike Park in Burnet Texas. This was the first race for us as a team and Cullen got us set up nicely with a banner for the pop up tent, and Idlewild Coffee hooked us up with Cold Brew for the morning!

It was a warm day for sure, and the turnout was big so there was a fair amount of standing in the sun. The team was represented by Cullen, Aidan, Marcus, Juan, and Philip and I.

Philip was on fire and finished his day in 8th place for Men’s 30-39. Cullen had a few mechanical gremlins pop up and was a bit compromised as a result but the whole team did great with no major crashes. I did break my Max Lens mod for the GoPro, but the bike and I were fine.

My favorite stage was Antidote, which is Antidote + Recluse + Venom. I have a few spots to improve there, and I think I lost a fair amount of time picking the middle line entering the left turn just before the spicy rock garden on Venom. The lower line is where it’s at.

I am very proud of Sticky Icky. I have so much anxiety racing this. I actually really like the trail, but it’s one I typically take my time on through a few sections. I had extra anxiety this time around because I crashed hard on this stage back in May. I may have put a foot down for the breifest of moments this time, but it was a clean run, and my fastest ever racing or otherwise.

I can’t say I enjoy Sidewinder. I mean, the trail is rad, I love the hell out of sidewinder. But the fire road before middle sidewinder bamboozled me hard. This stage is my weakest. I don’t perform as well here as I do on other trails relative to my age group, and in fact I was slower on this day than I was last December. Oof. At least you finish off your run with one sweet little tabletop which comes after the timing beacon. Video and gallery below…

The next race is at Marion Sansom Park in Fort Worth on October 15th!
