SATN Sentinel Issue #5

"All the news that's fit to RIDE about” from South Austin Trail Network!

There's lots to discuss, so lets get started…

  • Have you ridden the Davis Hill area at the corner of Brodie and Davis? Two miles of interesting single track.

  • Kimono Tracks is a new 1.4 mile trail that runs along the railroad tracks from Dittmar on the north end to the intersection with Track N' Mary on the south. It's a good trail to make interesting routing possible. Better, it is remarkably entertaining too. It has recently been cleaned up by the railroad company. Check it out.

  • Speaking of interesting routing, check out Boggy Down and Onion Bluff trails on Strava or Trailforks. These are new trails that connect The SATN to Onion Creek Metro Park. The Big East Loop, goes from Mary Moore Searight to Last Stand Brewery by going under I-35 twice. Very challenging and scenic trails.

  • 15th Hole”, and "Meridian High Line" make an excellent routing option to Meridian Bowl as an alternative to School Daze and Baldwin West.

  • Don’t neglect “President Reagan” on the Veloway side of MoPac between Lacrosse Ave. and “A Better Way”, this is another great routing option.

  • When you see a homeless camp you can call 311 or report it online; never immediate results, but every now and then our reporting does motivate the city to act.

  • RIDE THE SIDE! Ack! Nature is trying to take our trails. If every rider would ride the side and knock down the vegetation for 50 yards each ride we could keep it in check. Don't avoid that hanging-over-the-trail weed, ride over it.

  • Crank and Drank is alive and well. The new thing is that if the trails are too wet to ride then an urban jaunt will be taken. No anxiety now of "will it happen or not." Just come Tuesdays regardless of trail conditions.

  • SAVE THE DATE. The 2023 SATN Social will be on October 21 with a rain date of November 11.
