Crank ‘N Drank
South Austin Trail Network
Every Tuesday - 6PM
Crank ‘N Drank is a South Austin Trail Network Tuesday evening tradition.
Wheels down at 6pm. This is considered an ADVANCED level ride, meaning the slowest group is not a beginner group. Crank N Drank is not reccommended for beginners. There is a BYOB chill out after the ride. Bring a cooler, your favorite brew, a chair, and some money for Dominoes, Tacodeli, or TCBY which are in the shopping center.
Remember, this is an advanced level ride. Generally the groups are:
Group 4/Social: 8-9 MPH with breaks
Group 3: 9 MPH with a few breaks
Group 2: 9-10 mph with very few breaks
Group 1: 10-11 mph with very few breaks
*There is a Race Pace group but I am going to get on my soapbox here as someone who cares about our community and the impression we leave: race pace has no business in mixed use public trail systems and it is a shame the organizers of this ride will not reign that in. Until that happens, I am leaving this up as my protest. There is a race pace group. I encourage you not to join it. Good for you and your athleticism and cornering skills. Keep it in private systems/one way trails.
Please be respectful of the riders behind you. IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO KEEP UP MOVE ASIDE AND LET THE GROUP THROUGH.
planned Route
Uploaded by noon the day of ride.
Route Notes
If trail conditions are poor, route will be gravel and road.
THIS IS THE FIRST FULL NIGHT RIDE OF THE SEASON. YOU WILL NEED LIGHTS!
Route Notes courtesy of Greg Klipp:
Phoenix trails are still wet from the stormwater sprinklers. We are still planning to ride the Phoenix trails but will use Digo's Shortcut (Jeep Track) as a bypass tomorrow if needed.
FYI there will be NO KINDER CRANK for the remainder of the season due to the time change but it'll likely come back in March; however, I believe we will keep the ball rolling on the Social Group. For Tuesday's Social I have the following route:
Normal start..."Front Door" to "Slalom," flip around and take all of "Northbank" west to Escarpment spillway. Cross under Escarpment and do "No Walk" to "Forbidden Fenceline" to "Bandit" (the short version not the longer one) under La Crosse and hang a RIGHT onto "Phoenix North" then to Spruce Canyon and over to "Onion Park/Starting Gate," hit the jumps. At the golf cart path, climb the south/west bridge embankment and ride along the grass to road entrance into the golf course. Take "Golf Course" trail west, around 15th hole, then a left to "Bear Lake Back Door." Take Back Door to Meridian Highline and onto "Bowling for Glory" UP...keep climbing to "4 Jumps 2 Drops Dude" down to Bear Lake Jeep Track. Take the Jeep Track south to "Rattle (Up)" into Avana, then ride "Heaven's Gate" before continuing east on Bernia Dr. to "Avana Connector NB." Hit all 4 segments on Avana Connector. Once at 45, cross and take a LEFT onto "Median Well Westbound" back to the golf cart path. Climb north up "Onion Park/Starting Gate" to "Phoenix South" to "Bandit" then "Disc Go, Disc Go" back to Escarpment spillway. Cross under Escarpment and take "Southbank" to "Alamo Swamp" and back to the shop.
Total route is about 17 miles.
Meet behind ATX Bikes. Please do not park behind Domino’s Pizza, or in front of Austin Diagnostic Clinic!
